types of movies i like.

you know... there are some kinds of movies i like and some i dont.

1) Dystopian settings.
i like dystopian settings. i like the feel of such settings.
they're... to me they're an analogy, so as to speak.
as in... a cautionary tale of how the world might turn out in the future given the right combination of events.

2)rules that make sense.
i like a world... with rules.
then everything isn't totally possible.
there's still some twisted form of logic to keep the world from being totally everything-is-possible.
thats why i like batman more than superman.
batman's still a human being.
an incredibly rich one with cool gadgets.
but superman?
once, he grabbed the earth and spun it backwards to reverse time.
suspension of disbelief can only work for SO long.

3)movies with lots of pop culture references and meta jokes, especially those i can understand.
i like it when there's a joke and only i get it.
it makes me feel special.
like for example in one episode of the simpsons.
bart tricked the church organist into playing inna gadda da vida.
eventually she dropped dead out of sheer exhaustion.
every1 laughed, because she died.
but for me there was an added element poking fun at that song, because its incredibly long.
so i found it funny on another level as well.

4)movies with soundtracks featuring songs i like, or at least 1.
i dunno. i just like it.
like i enjoyed that movie balls of fury because of the def leppard soundtrack (partially)
and i liked iron man because they played black sabbath and Ac/Dc in the movie.

i generally like it when there're things i recognise in the movie, actually.

5)movies with a plot based on real events, especially historical events.
stuff like old war movies.
stalag17. the great escape.
i like those movies.
its fine if i watch them at home, because they're usually around 3 hours long.
yup. a long time ago people actually had the patience.
its the kinda movie i watch alone.

oh yah.
i found this pic. here heather. you'll like this.

oh well.
there's gonna be some new course coming up.
some chinese course that "borrows" fms's equipment.

its chinese media and communications.
and i think its a BAD idea.

this's 1 argument against it thats wrong, firsthand.

In addition, CMC is almost a replica of MCM, except that it is taught in Mandarin. Isn’t CMC redundant since Mass Communications students can do a Presentation in Chinese elective in their third year?

look.
i'm doing a book writing elective next semester. but that doesnt make me hemmingway.
i hope people understand this.

anyway, its really ridiculous to have this new course.
fms cannot already support yet another course using our equipment.
already, our equipment is out dated, over used and not in top condition.
there's not enough equipment and too many idiots borrowing them.
the TSO's taking care of the equipment are overworked and thus the equipment is often not in top condition.

oh yah.
you know why the TSO's are overworked?
there's this stupid chapman uni thing coming in soon.
and there's a proposal about a proposed ibp conglomerate.
yep.
in these all the lecturers are trying to push their own agenda without caring about what their decisions would actually do.

about the proposed conglomerate.
i feel it is a bad idea.
i understand the need to have the various IBPs working together.
then we can like help each other out.
but the thing is, we only want help when it is required.
i feel that the idea of a conglomerate will encourage reliance on others and reduce creative freedom.

for EXAMPLE, if the label decided to promote a punk band, having to work with external designers (within the conglomerate) would add an extra element of unfamiliarity.
the designers would likely not be familiar with their style.
extend this to an entire marketing team.
now imagine black flag being marketed like simple plan, because they're "both punk" from the marketing team's perspective.

and anyway, the way lecturers try to push their own agendas?
that fucking sickens me.
i recall a certain bald guy (who froths at the mouth when he talks too much)
yapping at the heels of a certain mabel
funny how 1 promotion can turn people into mental slaves.

ao anyway, i find the very idea ridiculous.
yes, the chinese media industry may be emerging in the long run.
yet that will make chs redundant, no?
i feel they should just revise the syllabus of chs.
not create 1 more course.

anyway, tell me honestly.
are you sick of china people?

cont'd in next post i guess.

CONGRATULATIONS!
yep. congratulations to China for winning the gold medal in table tennis.
and congratulations to China for winning the silver medal in table tennis as well.

yep. china, through some miraculous feat, managed to turn the finals into China's A team vs. China's B team.
and then go on to win both gold and silver.

don't tell me that their b team was playing under singapore's flag.
who do they really play for?
if you ask me they're just playing for our dear yusof ishak.

see. there's our dear dead president. smiling at them i suppose.

if you ask me the question of buying olympic medals is a question of whether the ends justify the means.
is singapore so hard up for olympic medals that it has to resort to importing them?
in a way its the easy way out i suppose.

we may buy medals to burnish national pride, but the real question is exactly how much national pride our medallists even have?

if you ask me, this medal is not singaporean.
its just like much in singapore nowadays.
made in china, bought with singaporean money.

hopefully one day we will actually have a singaporean champion we can be truly proud of.
(btw singapore should buy michael phelps, eh? more efficient. instead of 1 silver, can get 8 golds!)

wish- Nine inch nails

I'M ON STOMP!

yup. thats me.
heather made up some story and got me to climb up like a monkey.
yep.
she made me sound like some stereotype lor!
yep. group of boys behaving recklessly.
aiyah...
at least i didn't bump my cheekbone into anything. :)

a sample of some of the comments made.

"ompurhell said on 12 Aug, 2008

"RussianRifle said on 12 Aug, 2008
i think stomper is one of them.. look at the camera angel..."

i don't see any angels in the camera. only a long haired lout climbing onto the bus.
and how does any1 manage to ADVICE people. (singaporeans and english. a dangerous combination.
... and about the camera ANGLE it doesnt look that obvious what.
they nv hear b4 what is zoom sia...

"halohalo777 said on 12 Aug, 2008

"happy5263 said on 12 Aug, 2008
let them break their bones or even die...lesser nuisance in the world."

RachelSniper said on 12 Aug, 2008
Let that person breaks his bone and remains answerable to the relevant authority should he vandalise the bus.

right. its incredibly fun to do this kinda shit actually.
and no, i've never broken anything from doing stuff like this yet.

"ZhaoWeiMei said on 12 Aug, 2008
谁家的小孩没家教? 难到新加坡的孩子是这样培养出来 !"

right. get the fuck out of my country, you dirty communist whore.

anyway, notice how singaporeans cant speak english?
i know, sometimes im lazy too.
but basic grammatical structure and such is indispensable.
here's a few examples.

lesser nuisance. (lesser compared to what? am i like beelzebub junior now?)
breaks his bone (i am QUITE sure that most people have more than 1 bone you know...)
fail to advice (isn't it advise. wrong form of the word used.
human monkees (im quite sure the monkees were human. most other primates arent musically inclined
remains answerable to the relevant authority
(wrong form of the words used. it would thus be "remain answerable to the relevant authorities."

they should revise the standards for literacy in singapore.
in a way, the world is more global now and it is a requisite to speak more than pidgin english to do business globally.
there should be something like the language academy they have in france (and quebec, but thats another story)

truth be told, i wouldnt consider many singaporeans to be proficient in english.
i couldnt throw out a percentage, but i would reasonably say most singaporeans... cant speak english well enough.

you know it would be nice if i could take a metaphorical sabbatical.
just get marooned on a desert island, cut off from society.
its not that i hate my friends or anything.
its just that...
just maybe...
i'm sick of society.

its times like these that make me appreciate solitude.
by time i mean late nights and such.
its 2am now anyway.

so... yeah.
it would be nice to cut myself off temporarily.

i know i've said this a lot, but has any1 read the story "the curious incident of the dog in the nighttime"?
the autistic protagonist has this recurring dream.
every1 dies, and he can do whatever he wants, and be as alone as he wants

i kinda liked that book, not for its touchy-feely stuff.
rather, i liked that book because...
it offered perspective.

anyway, one day it'd be nice if i could go on a...
journey of self discovery.
go on a spiritual journey until i get an epiphany.
like homer simpson, whose childlike mentality i can identify with.

maybe. one day.

anyway, i read the most ridiculous thing in the papers the other day.
1 girl was complaining how "friendship" was becoming too impersonal, with the popularity of social networking sites.
you see, the funny thing is...
no1 held a gun to her head and told her to join.
no1's stopping her from leaving.
and yet she complains.

it isnt that hard you know.
i'm not the kinda people who... likes to make "friends".
i know the definition of a friend.
i do not have many, by choice i'd say.
i mean... i definitely do not have people queueing up to beg to be my friend.
but i'm not the sort to actively make friends either.

i don't like exuberant, outgoing people as much.
its nothing to do with asians being more reserved or anything.
its just that people like that...
what're they trying to prove?
that they're more popular?

whatever it is, i just find it rather disgusting.
i know a friend is somebody you at least talk to regularly.
not some1 you add on msn once or summat and then forget about.

seriously, sometimes i seem to be the product of a different culture.
i mean, i identify nothing with the average singaporean.
lemme list some ways.

1) i do not like chinese pop, not because its chinese. but because its pop.
i mean... pop isn't necessarily bad.
but why does chinese pop have to be so unabashedly commercialised?
shame... shame...

2) i do not use my mother tongue as my first language
(who came up with the term mother tongue anyway. my mum's chinese is much worse than my dad's.)
i would say i am reasonably conversant, but compulsive use of mother tongue just creates racial boundaries.
singapore is a multi racial society, something i am rather proud of actually.
it is important for us all to have reasonable competency in our common denominator.
by that i of course refer to the use of the english language.
we should not speak the queen's english all the time.
but rather, we should be ABLE to speak to the standard required by the situation.
thus i would occasionally speak like this, enunciating my syllables fully and such.
but sum time i speak lai dat lor.
(this, btw, is why i dont like china people.)

3) i do not believe in blind obedience.
not to a government.
not to a god, whose existence cannot even be proven.
i do not believe in faith alone, i believe in questioning.
which sets me apart from traditional confucian obedience to authority.
but then again why am i not surprised that the country that came up with that became communist.

speaking of communism, there is no such thing as a communist state irl.
nor has there ever been.
communism, in its FINAL STATE means no government at all.
the people obey the rules, thus there is no longer a need for governance.
what we (or rather, what people who read, which rules out 99% of singapore) know as communism is just effectively a dictatorship.

...and its 3, so im gg to sleep.
i hate sleep.
i cant fall asleep without thinking.
